T2 –T2 Exchange in Biofouled Porous Media
نویسندگان
چکیده
Recent two dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques access exchange in pore structures through surface relaxation and diffusion based relaxation [1-4]. This research applies these techniques to measure pore changes due to biofilm growth and the impact this growth has on diffusion transport. The porous media used in this study are model beadpacks constructed from borosilicate glass beads with diameters approximately 100 m. This research shows that through changes in the relaxation rates, NMR can be used to verify biofilm growth in porous media.

Nuclear magnetic relaxation of liquids in porous media
Nuclear magnetic relaxation is useful for probing physical and chemical properties of liquids in porous media. Examples are given on high surface area porous materials including calibrated porous silica glasses, granular packings, plaster pastes, cement-based materials and natural porous materials, such as sandstone and carbonate rocks. Here, we outline our recent NMR relaxation work for these ...
متن کاملCharacterization of Pore to Pore Diffusive Exchange Using Nmr T2-store-t2 2d Experiments
Low field NMR T2 distribution is an efficient tool for characterizing pore size distribution in porous media. For multimodal systems, a new technique called T2-storeT2 allows the analysis of diffusional pore to pore exchange that is extremely useful for the characterization of connectivity. This technique uses 2D inverse Laplace techniques and produces T2-T2 maps. Qualitatively, a system is cou...

We present in this communication a novel propagator-resolved transverse relaxation exchange experiment. This experiment enhances the previous technique of transverse relaxation exchange by enabling spatial resolution. Hence, we are able to obtain separate, and remarkably different, T2-T2 exchange plots, corresponding to different spatial displacement of the spin bearing water molecules in a por...
متن کاملEvaluation of the relationship between hepatic and cardiac iron overload with MRI T2* and carotid intima media thickness with Doppler ultrasound in beta thalassemia major patients
Background: Iron overload is caused early progression of atherosclerosis in beta thalassemia patients due to regular repeated blood transfusion. MRI T2* is a gold standard non-invasive method for detecting hepatic and cardiac iron overload. The aim of this study was the comparison of carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) in the patients and healthy control groups with Doppler ultrasound for ear...
متن کاملBounds on the conductivity of a suspension of random impenetrable spheres
We compare the general Beran bounds on the effective electrical conductivity of a two-phase composite to the bounds derived by Torquato for the specific model of spheres distributed throughout a matrix phase. For the case of impenetrable spheres, these bounds are shown to be identical and to depend on the microstructure through the sphere volume fraction ¢2 and a three-point parameter t2, which...
